Contra is a coffee and tea brewery based in Santa Ana, California that specializes in serving hand-formulated and innovative coffee and tea beverages on tap and on Nitro. No amount of expertise is required to serve our drinks, but expertise is required to formulate them and provide customers with recommendations. Unlike the current state of coffee and tea, we view coffee and tea as raw material rather than finished product. We constantly refine and reinvent our methods instead of standardizing them, as each beverage creation is brewed with their own method.
Our mission is to marry the craft aspect of modern breweries and the social aspect of a bar with our coffee and tea beverage creations and the power of the local coffee shop in regards to strengthening communities.
Our vision is to challenge others to introduce and share a new perspective in their respective field of passion or expertise. We want to influence others to be bold enough to improve upon the status quo and, instead of being a derivative of the present, be influenced by it and create something new.
Julie Nguyen and Paul Del Mundo were R&D Food Technologists working for flavor and beverage manufacturing companies and looking for satisfaction in their lives through their corporate jobs. As recent college graduates from Cal Poly Pomona, finishing school and entering the "real world" was always the goal.
"Unfortunately when we got there, we became sorely disappointed. The corporate environment did not fit our personalities and we discussed what we wanted out of our lives over numerous cups of coffee and tea. We agreed upon three things: One, our creations within the company were often muted and overlooked by managers and supervisors. Two, we had very specific skillsets rooted in R&D and could use them to create something independent of an employer. And three, all the coffee shops we went to served many of the same drinks." From that realization, they gave up their careers in the industry and created “Contra” in 2015.
In order to help maximize our potential, and provide a quality and consistent service and product to our customers, we are asking for funding that will help cover the cost of opening up a brick-and-mortar location to expand the production of our coffee and tea brews.
This money will go towardsBy being able to expand production, we will be able to serve more frequently on a weekly basis and have a consistent place of business where our customers can find us, enjoy our brews, and purchase bottles and other retail merchandise to-go.
